Autumn Color Along: A Forest Encounter
Ahnna NguyenShare
The forest is changing into its autumn colors, and it’s the perfect time for a cozy color-along.
Today, we’re coloring A Forest Encounter, a whimsical coloring page inspired by the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. For this page, I chose an autumn palette filled with reds, oranges, yellows, and browns, the colors of a forest slowly transitioning through the season, with its changing leaves and colorful canopies.
For this tutorial, I’m using Prismacolor colored pencils, and I’ve included the color codes in each image so you can easily follow along. Of course, feel free to swap in similar colors from your own pencil collection and make the palette your own.
Let’s start coloring!

First, color the red hood with a mix of warm reds.

Use browns for the hair and peach and nude tones for the skin. Add a little red for rosy cheeks and hands.

Next, color the dress with warm autumn shades.

Color the basket (945, 946), cloth (941, 927), and shoes (946).

Next up, our little forest friend, the wolf!

Have fun with the tree crown! I ended up mixing lots of autumn colors here.

Use different shades of brown for the tree trunks and the little house.

Use shades of red for the roof and mushrooms, with peach and brown for the mushroom stalks.

Add different shades of yellow to the grass, moss, and ferns.

Finally, add a dark brown background to create depth and make everything pop.
And We’re Done!

Our little autumn forest is complete!
I hope this color-along gives you a little inspiration for your own autumn coloring pages. You can follow my palette, use the color codes in the images as a guide, or pick your own colors and create a completely different forest.
Most importantly, have fun with it.
Happy coloring!
